Summertime in northern michigan is blue sky and blue water. Favorite place and favorite people (except for my people in west MI, ohio, Colorado, Chicago, and South Korea). My time up here has consisted of long runs and beach days and relaxing nights. Also, a little bit of golf! Some of my favorite places:
I got home to TC at 4 on Friday, and my mom and I went straight to the lake. As always, the water as blue and sparkly, the sun was high and warm, and I was so thankful to be there.
Katy and Cole came to the lake with my Mom and me all day Saturday and we stayed until 730 pm; swimming, reading, laughing, eating.
leland [south beach]
Tuesday my mom and I had a Suttons Bay outside breakfast and day in Leland that ended at the Cove in Fishtown. Love Leland getaways and being spontaneous with my mom.
We spent Fourth of July on Silver Lake* with the girls. We think we won the pontoon parade with our Hawaiian theme- leis and grass skirts and coconut bras. Such a fun boat day.
empire [north bar]
Cole and my mom and I spontaneously went to Northbar beach, a little beach in Empire with Northbar lake and Lake Michigan, connected by water. We sat in chairs and swam in both lakes. There was a nice breeze and blue sky all day. My friend Forrest happened to be there too and it was great to catch up with him. We finished our M22 day in Glen Arbor over wine and spinach artichoke dip.
I got to see Emily and Austin one month after the wedding, up at bay harbor again! We went downtown Petoskey and got big sandwiches at Roast and Toast. We toured Bay Harbor in their little gem car (until it broke down and we had to push it back). She showed me pictures from Hawaii and we got to enjoy each other’s company and time with our hometeam. Love her and Austin, and love her parents and her nanny, and that I got to know her family better. As we live such different lives, I still and reminded that nothing about her will ever feel far away and we our friendship is so special.
cloudy and cool runs
Cloudy, cool running weather causes me to run forever. I woke up to clouds and kept sleeping because it was 55 degrees. I had a lazy morning and ran around noon. I felt strong and energetic and ended up going 14 miles because why not. Thankful for strong legs and strong heart, a desire to run, and a beautiful place to run.
This morning I let myself sleep until 10, which meant a sunny, hotter run. But I found shade on the Leelanau trail and ran straight into Cedar Lake after my run. Those post-run swims (especially those post-run jumps into Cedar Lake) are so refreshing. Love my long runs and love finishing them in the lake.
Traverse City, I love you. I love your summer weather, your lakes and beaches, and I love being on vacation in my hometown. Praise Jesus for northern michigan the beautiful, and this time to renew and relax after 3 trimesters of school.
